    Rio Grande do Sul: Situation keeps getting worse

    According to the latest bulletin, 95 people have been killed so far in the Brazilian state of Rio Grande do Sul by the highly unusual heavy rains hitting the area since April 19, Agencia Brasil reported. Governor Eduardo Leite confirmed that 131 people were missing and at least 401 towns (out of 497 statewide) had been affected.

    Brasil: Cármen Lúcia to replace Alexandre De Moraes as TSE Chief Justice

    Lúcia has already been the first woman ever to chair the TSE

    Cármen Lúcia has been slated to succeed Alexandre De Moraes as Chief Justice of Brazil's Superior Electoral Court (TSE) starting June 3. It will be Lúcia's second term in the post. In 2012 she became the first woman ever to hold that office. Her term will span through 2026. The TSE is made up of at least seven justices, three from the Supreme Federal Court (STF), two from the Superior Court of Justice (STJ), and two lawyers.

    Argentina has introduced a new denomination of banknotes, the 10,000 peso bill (equivalent to about 10 U.S. dollars), in response to the country's ongoing struggle with high inflation. The Central Bank of Argentina (BCRA) announced that these new banknotes will gradually enter circulation starting this Tuesday and be available at bank branches and ATMs nationwide.

    Former President Evo Morales has been deposed as leader of Bolivia's Movement Towards Socialism (MAS) after a party congress over the weekend chose Grover Garcia to chair the political movement. The winner is aligned with incumbent President Luis Arce Catacora, a former ally of Morales' who has become his deadliest enemy in recent years. García stems from the Single Confederation of Bolivian Peasant Workers Union (CSUTCB) and was also mayor of the municipality of Tiraque.

Still, they told the population to look out for oropouche, another mosquito-borne virus that causes symptoms similar to those of dengue.     On Thursday 2 May the Wildlife Disease Response Group, which includes representatives from Falkland Islands Government, Falklands Conservation, Falkland Islands Tourist Board, Government of South Georgia and South Sandwich Islands, UK Ministry of Defense and other relevant stakeholders, met to discuss the 23/24 summer season specifically about the HPAI situation in the Falklands and the response to it.
