    EU leaders' summit can't agree on the block's top jobs

    The most powerful role being decided is EU Commission president, held by ex-Luxembourg PM Jean-Claude Juncker since 2014.

    The summit of 28 European Union leaders has ended without an agreement on who should take on the bloc's top jobs. The talks, held in Brussels, continued until the early hours of Friday morning without candidates being finalized.

    EU Parliament President Antonio Tajani rebuked Mr. Juncker and asked for “a more respectful attitude”

    The head of the European Union’s executive called its parliament “totally ridiculous” during a spat over low MEP attendance. After EU Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker thanked the few dozens of the 700-plus MEPs for attending a plenary session, he insisted that “parliament is not serious” for failing to show up in large numbers for the keynote debate of the day.

    Germany and UK disagree on candidate for next EU Commission president

    Angela Merkel strongly supports Mr. Junker who is considered too much of a federalist by London

    German Chancellor Angela Merkel has said she wants former Luxembourg Prime Minister Jean-Claude Juncker to become the next EU Commission president. But some European leaders have voiced opposition to the move, including the British government who argue that Mr. Juncker is too much of an EU federalist and called for “a lengthy process to find consensus”.
