  WHO guidelines on physical activity, sedentary behavior and sleep for children under 5 years of age

  

  Children under five must spend less time sitting watching screens, or restrained in prams and seats, get better quality sleep and have more time for active play if they are to grow up healthy, according to new guidelines issued by the World Health Organization.

  WHO kicks off global initiative to treat children with cancer

  

  WHO has announced a new effort - the WHO Global Initiative for Childhood Cancer - with the aim of reaching at least a 60% survival rate for children with cancer by 2030, thereby saving an additional one million lives. This new target represents a doubling of the global cure rate for children with cancer.

  Over 41 000 children and adults in the WHO European Region have been infected with measles in the first 6 months of 2018. The total number for this period far exceeds the 12-month totals reported for every other year this decade.

  WHO and UNICEF issue new guidance to promote breastfeeding in health facilities

  

  WHO and UNICEF today issued new ten-step guidance to increase support for breastfeeding in health facilities that provide maternity and newborn services. Breastfeeding all babies for the first 2 years would save the lives of more than 820 000 children under age 5 annually.
