A new Board of Directors was appointed at the Annual General Meeting of the Falkland Islands Tourist Board, held on Thursday 4th June. Five of the existing directors will remain on the board, with four new directors joining them.

“This marks the beginning of a new chapter for the Falkland Islands Tourist Board”, says Richard Cockwell, Chairman of FITB. “The four new directors have a wide range of skills and experience, which will assist FITB in developing tourism and taking full advantage of the opportunities which it offers to the Falkland Islands.”

The four new members appointed were:

Sarah Clements – Sarah is the owner of SeAled PR, which specialises in public relations and event management in the Falklands, as well as offering “Naturetrek” walking tours to cruise visitors.

Terence McPhee – Terence owns Kingsford Valley Farm and runs a successful self-catering accommodation business which attracts a large number of domestic visitors and a growing number of international visitors. Terence is also a tour guide during the cruise ship season, taking visitors to Volunteer Point, as well as working for Bluff Cove Lagoon Tours.

Sally Ellis – Sally leads the inbound Falkland division of International Tours and Travel and brings to FITB an extensive knowledge of the land-based sector as well as great passion for the islands.

Arlette Bloomfield – as Manager of Falkland Islands Holidays, Arlette has extensive experience in the travel industry both in the Falklands and in the UK where she worked as Manager for Going Places and also Hayes Travel.

Sarah, Terence, Sally and Arlette will join Richard Cockwell (Chairman), Ian Hansen (Vice Chairman) Jake Downing (General Manager of FITB), David Waugh (General Manager of FIDC) and Roger Spink (Director and General Manager of FIC) on the board. They will take up their new posts immediately.

In total, nine candidates stood for election at the AGM. “We were delighted to see so many members who wanted to participate in moving FITB and the industry into the future”, said Mr Cockwell.

Mr Cockwell also thanked the previous Board of Directors for all their hard work and said that he looked forward to their involvement in the future development of FITB.

The new Board is expected to meet for the first time next month, and will remain in place for 2 years.
