Dutch Queen Beatrix, who turns 75, announced she was abdicating in favour of her son, Prince Willem-Alexander, who will become king on April 30. Willem-Alexander, 45, is married to Argentine born Princess Maxima Zorreguieta and has three young children.

US team extracts samples from sub-glacial Antarctica lake 800 metres in deep ice

In a first-of-its-kind feat of science and engineering, a US National Science Foundation (NSF)-funded research team has successfully drilled through 800 meters of Antarctic ice to reach a sub-glacial lake and retrieve water and sediment samples that have been isolated from direct contact with the atmosphere for many thousands of years.

Argentine Jewish community organizations, DAIA and AMIA strongly rejected on Monday the government of President Cristina Fernandez decision to sign an agreement with Iran for the naming of a special ‘truth’ commission referred to the 1994 attack to a Jewish organization in Buenos Aires which left 85 dead and hundreds injured.

The final document of the EU/CELAC summit in Chile which gathered representatives from 61 countries made a strong commitment to promote trade and investment between the two blocks as well as combat protectionism, but there was no explicit mention to the Falklands’ dispute with Argentina.
