Pravda, Russia’s political newspaper associated with the Communist Party, welcomed Gibraltar into UEFA’s family in an article publish online on Thursday.
The story published on pravada.ru read: ‘Welcome to UEFA’s new soccer team, Gibraltar, which is the UEFA member nation with fewest residents - some 30,000. Gibraltar will enter the UEFA EURO 2016 campaign on its debut, although the football association was formed in 1895.’
As the GFA prepare themselves for the European Qualifiers, Russia’s welcome will come as a boost for Gibraltar as they await their destiny in the GFA’s maiden campaign in Europe at the Qualifying draw 23 February, in Nice, and it should be noted that Gibraltar will not be drawn with Spain due to the political unrest.
Russia amongst other nations is involved in the draw which paves the path for Euro 2016 in France.
