    The new season in Holland opened with a major shock as 32 times champions Ajax lost 2-1 at lowly Heracles a team from Almelo on the far east side of the country. After taking the lead in the 58th minute through Hakim Ziyech it seemed as if it was then just a matter of how many goals Ajax would wish to score, but Heracles stunned the Amsterdam side by scoring twice, through Paul Gladon and Brandley Kuwas to secure a memorable victory.

    UK government show of unity: Hammond and Fox share a column in the Sunday Telegraph

    Writing in the Sunday Telegraph, Hammond and Fox said UK definitely will leave both the customs union and the single market when it exits the EU in March 2019.

    The UK will need a transition period to help businesses adjust after Brexit, the chancellor and the international trade secretary have said. In a joint Sunday Telegraph article, Philip Hammond and Liam Fox stressed any deal would not be indefinite or a “back door” to staying in the EU.

    British government and Scotland exchange threats over Brexit legislation

    Scottish Brexit Minister Mike Russell again warned that if Tories go ahead with the Bill without Holyrood’s approval it would be an “unprecedented step to take”.

    The legislation to formally remove the UK from the European Union will not be changed by Westminster, a senior member of Theresa May’s Cabinet has said despite threats from Scotland's SNP ministers to refuse consent for the Bill as it stands.

    Falklands' SAERI lead in Ascension Island tropical marine research

    The Journal of Marine Biological Association of the United Kingdom (*) has this month released a special issue focussing on Ascension Island’s marine biodiversity. Falklands' based SAERI Director Dr Paul Brickle explained that 20 papers reported on the results of 202 sampling events, comprising a mixture of quantitative SCUBA surveys involving belt transects for fish and mobile fauna and quadrat photography for sessile fauna.

    Rogoff warns about personal and corporate debt as main threats to global economy

Ken Rogoff, who famously predicted a big bank would collapse during the financial crisis, warned that people had got used to ultra-low interest rates and said the economic policies of the Trump administration posed a risk.

    US Congress delegation on “support visit” to Gibraltar

     The Congress members are visiting Gibraltar under the UK Mutual Educational and Cultural Exchange Act program and will be on the Rock for two days.

    Members of the United States Congress are visiting Gibraltar to ‘show support’ for the Rock as they reflected on the close links between Gibraltar and the US. Acting Gibraltar Chief Minister Dr Joseph Garcia welcomed a delegation from the Congress of the United States to Gibraltar on Monday afternoon before taking them through a series of meetings throughout the course of yesterday.
