Busy weekend in Ushuaia for Antarctica cruises: 1.249 visitors

Among the vessels calling in Ushuaia was Le Soleil and Sea Spirit

Over the weekend 1.239 visitors in six luxury cruise vessels landed in Ushuaia en route to Antarctica according to local reports from Tierra del Fuego, to which must be added another two that called in on Monday and Tuesday.

IAATO estimates 36.545 tourists will travel to Antarctica next season 2014/15

New figures released on Monday by the International Association of Antarctica Tour Operators (IAATO), estimate that 36,545 tourists will travel with IAATO members to Antarctica next season, 2014-2015. The information was reported at the first day of the 37th Antarctic Treaty Consultative Meeting (ATCM) in Brasilia, which IAATO attend as Invited Experts.

IATTO expects Antarctic tourism to grow 3% next 2013/14 season

A Norwegian cruise liner at risk of becoming trapped in thick ice off the coast of Antarctica was guided to safety by the Royal Navy in a two-hour operation, an incident which occurred a week ago and has only emerged.
