Falklands’ penguin population rising: Gentoo doubled and Rockhopper remains stable
According to the most recent count in the Falklands, the number of Gentoo penguin breeding pairs has doubled when compared with the number counted during the last census in 2005. Rockhopper penguin numbers are reported to be stable.
Prince William ends routine tour in Falklands and is back in UK with Kate
Britain's Prince William was reunited with his wife on Wednesday after returning home from a tour of duty. The future king arrived at RAF Brize Norton in Oxfordshire on the morning after leaving on February 1 for a tour with his Search and Rescue squadron in the Falkland Islands.
Schmallenberg disease outbreak in Europe: Uruguay bans import of genetic material
Uruguay’s Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries has imposed a transitory ban on all genetic material imports from Europe following the outbreak of the disease Schmallenberg which attacks bovines, sheep, goats and buffalos.
Argentina denies protectionism; claims imports in 2011 soared 30%
Foreign Affairs minister Hector Timerman said on Tuesday “there is no country” in the world that can say Argentina is protectionist and claimed it is the G20 member that saw imports soar most between 2010 and 2011.
