A special envoy and personal representative from British Primer Minister Tony Blair visited Uruguay for a few days as part of a tour of several Latinamerican countries
According to official reports from the Uruguayan Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Lord Levy handed President Jorge Batlle a personal message from Prime Minister Blair and spoke extensively about affairs of mutual interest during a private lunch hosted in Government House.
Uruguayan authorities did not disclose the content of the message.
Lord Levy, described as a very successful businessman by the Uruguayan press, also held meetings with most of Uruguay's financial officials, --Finance Minister Alberto Bensión and Central Bank president César Rodríguez Batlle--, and private bankers, plus taking time off to visit the world famous resort of Punta del Este.
The other countries visited by Lord and Lady Levy included Mexico, Venezuela, Bolivia and Ecuador.
Before leaving Uruguay, British Ambassador in Montevideo, Mr. Andrew Murray and Irene, held a reception for Lord and Lady Levy inviting all Ministers of the Uruguayan cabinet.
