The remote Island of Tristan da Cunha is now beginning to recover from the hurricane that struck the island on 21st May, causing widespread damage. Chief Islander James Glass told Louise McGregor Edwards how islanders are starting to rebuild their lives. The results of the Appeal which was held in the Falklands, together with the Government's pound-for-pound contribution, as well as several independent ventures, will be sent off to the island within the next few days. The Standard Chartered Bank is still waiting for the money from intrepid DT Teacher Martin Cant's head-and-beard-shaving, at which point the final total will be known. James Glass describes the feelings of the residents of Tristan da Cunha about the donations. And a final word from Mr Glass to the people of the Falklands.

Interviews for new General Manager of FLH

Interviews are to be conducted in London on Friday to find a new General Manager for Falkland Landholdings. The Chief Executives office has reported that there are four applicants, all men, for the position, which is currently occupied by Colin Horton. Chairman of the FLH board Dr Michael Blanche, and board members Tim Blake and Councillor Richard Cockwell will carry out the interviews.

Leisure Centre Popular Venue for Holidaying Youths

The Stanley Leisure Centre has today turned out to be as popular as ever for youths currently on school holidays. Staff have organised a series of events and fun activities for the youngsters and today, the first day of their three week holiday. Twenty five children participated in the Crazy Hour in the swimming pool and eighteen turned out for the challenge team events. These included games such as making mountains with sugar cubes, walking the plank and making things from balloons. More activities are planned for tomorrow including a quiz in the style of the weakest link for ages eight and upwards in the afternoon.

Injured Seal Evades Capture

Plans are being made to trap an injured seal, discovered at FIPASS on Saturday afternoon by workers. Members of Falklands Conservation and vet Kevin Lawrence spent 2 ½ hours trying to capture the male sea lion which had a six in stainless steel fish hook through its upper l
