Marketing Trip to UK

Harrods and Fortnam and Mason are among the food retailers, Richard Baker from FIDC hopes to visit on a marketing trip planned for October. The intention of the trip is to raise the profile of foods and natural products under the Falklands Finest Scheme. The General Manager will be visiting the UK and Europe to attend a number of exhibitions: ?Organex' which is one of the key European Organic Shows and a major food Show in Cologne called ANUGA held bi-annually. In addition, he hopes to meet with organic food retailers including ?Planet Organic' and ?Fresh and Wild'.

Day trip to the west now possible

FIGAS will be operating a service to Fox Bay every Wednesday from next week. The flight will depart at half past eight in the morning meaning passengers will arrive just before nine thirty. They will then be picked up at around half past three giving passengers about six hours on the West. For those in Camp, the system will allow them approximately four and half-hours in Stanley. Bookings for the ?Fox Bay Wednesday Day Trip' will be on a first come, first serve basis as the day is initially limited to one aircraft. The fares for this service will be 10% cheaper making the cost £75.60 for residents as opposed to £84.00.

Transport Review up for consultation

A Transport Review has been prepared by FIDC and will be discussed at the Transport Advisory Committee (TAC) next Wednesday. The intention is to develop an integrated transport system for the future. The review states that FIG spends 2.5 million pounds per year on internal transport. 524 thousand pounds is spent on a coastal shipping service. Internal flights cost £1.50 per passenger per mile but revenue for the same is only 63 pence. Suggestions are to change the Tamar schedule to reduce calls to ports that are on a road network but have increased ferry operation across the sound. And allocation of extra funds is recommended to accelerate the road programme on West Falkland. For the Air Service, they suggest increasing passengers on flights by offering duty fare to certain strips on specified days.
