Unemployment in Chile during the June-August quarter dropped slightly (0,1%) to 9,6% compared to a year ago, but actually increased 0,2% over the previous quarter.
The latest Statistics Institute release indicates that in the June-August quarter the labour force reached 5,853.150, the number of jobless 562,840 and those actually employed 5,290.310.
When discriminated by sex, unemployment for men was 9,7% and for women 9,5%, with a 0,1% increase and a 0,4% decreased respectively over a year ago.
Regarding the previous quarter unemployment for men increased 0,3% and remained unchanged for women. By age group unemployment for the 15/19 years old was 30,8%; for 20/24 years 21,5%; 25/34 years, 11,3%; 35/44 years, 7%; 45/54 years, 5,6%; 55/64, 5,3% and over 65 years, 2,2%.
Compared to a year ago unemployment increased in Regions III, from 9,9% to 11,1%; Region V from 12,4% to 14%; Region VI, from 9,5% to 10,7%; Region VII, from 15,1% to 16,1%; Region IX from 7% to 9,2%; Region XI from 5,4% to 5,5% and Region XII from 8,3% to 8,5%.
Unemployment dropped in Region I, from 11,6% to 10,8%; Region II, from 10,3% to 7,2%; Region IV 10,6% to 7,6%; Region VIII from 12,2% to 11,5%; Region X from 7,4% to 6,8% and in Metropolitan Santiago from 8,4% to 7,9%.
