The organization that rules Internet for the Latinamerican region, Lacnic, will be meeting in Montevideo from March 29 to April first to review the functioning of the system with Latinamerica and Caribbean operators.
Icann president (maximum authority of Internet domains) Paul Twomey will be participating in the Lacnic meeting. One of the main points will be an open discussion on how Internet can support equal access to the net for the Latino community.
However the technological highlight of the meeting will be Internet Protocol and the IPv4 and Ipv6 versions facilitating Internet navigation and e-mails.
"Even when the meeting has a clear technical angle, it will also address the technological gap that can be crucial for the integral development of different countries and communities", indicated Lacnic.
Other issues and of particular relevance because of the many interests involved is the temptation of many governments that oppose the current self-regulatory system.
"This has been one of the most controversial issues of the recent Information Society World Summit".
But the Montevideo meeting will also be open to consider regional interconnection, efforts to improve it, social issues such as pornography on the line, family and Internet, war on terrorism and privacy.
