The Argentine and Brazilian air forces will be involved until next Friday in the combined exercise Plata II with the participation of fighter and transport planes, helicopters, ground radar systems and 360 servicemen.
The "Plata II" objective is the control and patrolling of the common airspace in the north of Argentina and south of Brazil, simulating detection, identification and interception of irregular flights.
The area in the heartland of South America is prone to illegal air flights by smugglers, drug dealers and organized crime.
The joint headquarters for both air forces will be in the city of Posadas, province of Misiones. The previous similar exercise took place in the city of Santa María, Rio Grande do Sul in 2001.
