Lan Chile raises air fares average 4%

Ballooning fuel prices have forced Lan Chile to increase international and domestic fares an average 4%, the Chilean flag air carrier announced last week.

Fuel costs during the second quarter reached 86, 4 million US dollars, 52, 5% higher than the same period a year ago.

The new Economy fare Punta Arenas-Santiago-Punta Arenas (which has several limitations and conditions) now costs 121,178 Chilean pesos compared to 114,778 Chilean pesos a week ago.

The following immediate fare is now 177.178 Chilean pesos (174.778).

Normal fare Punta Arenas-Santiago remained almost unchanged from 171.139 to 171.539 Chilean pesos.

Economy fare Punta Arenas-Puerto Montt-Punta Arenas increased from 99,778 to 103,178 Chilean pesos.

Return fare to Concepción from 153,556 to 161,356 Chilean pesos and return fare to Temuco, from 128,556 to 133,546 Chilean pesos.

All fares include boarding tax.

On the opening of Santiago's money market, the US dollar was selling at 629 Chilean pesos.
