Update on New Fisheries Policy for Falkland Islands.

Asked when there might be a date available for the publication of the new Falkland Islands Fisheries Policy, Attorney General, David Lang told the Fisheries Committee on Tuesday morning that he would be surprised if an answer to that question were to be available before “some time in November”.

The Attorney General said that he had received detailed comments from the Foreign and Commonwealth Office on the draft policy to which he had responded "at considerable length".

The Committee was told that the Governor of the Falkland Islands and others had expressed concerns to the Foreign and Commonwealth Office over the length of the process of approval of the new policy.

Chairman of the Fisheries Committee, Legislative Councillor Richard Cockwell, said that as a result of this pressure, he believed that the FCO was now firmly focused on the issue.
