The Rio Group XVIII presidential summit which ended this Friday in Rio do Janerio included in its final declaration a chapter in support of Argentina's claim over the Falklands/Malvinas.
The joint communiqué signed by all presidents and representatives of the 19 member countries of the Group reiterates support for Argentina and asks for a "quick solution" to the dispute, which in 1982 triggered an armed conflict between Argentina and Great Britain in the South Atlantic.
The communiqué emphasizes "the regional interest in that the prolonged dispute over these territories achieves a quick solution, in conformity with resolutions and declarations from United Nations and the Organization of American States".
The support for Argentina's claim over Falklands/Malvinas Islands is a routine statement by the Latinamerican block.
