US President George W. Bush, who was yesterday sworn in for his second term in office, has confirmed his attendance at the Summit of the Americas to be held in the coastal city of Mar del Plata in November.
Argentina's Ambassador in Washington José Octavio Bordón said yesterday that a private meeting between Bush and President Néstor Kirchner is likely before the Mar del Plata summit.
"Both governments are interested in holding such a meeting to discuss bilateral issues," said the ambassador.
Bordón also said that he believes Bush's second term will mean more attention paid to Latin American issues.
"I see an increase in the US government's Latin American programme," said Bordón. About the bilateral relationship, Bordón said: "Apart from some differences on specific issues, the relations have been very positive."
