Argentina has deported a former Nazi to Chile, where he is wanted on charges of sexually abusing children after two days to be arrested in Buenos Aires.

Paul Schaefer, 83, was put aboard a Chilean Air Force LearJet 351 last night arriving at Santiago airport at 1.06am. (Chile has changed his local time today Sunday - 4hrs. GMT), where he was joined by Chile's undersecretary for the Interior.

A Chilean judge convicted Schaefer in absentia last year for sexually abusing more than two dozen Chilean children lured to a free clinic and school at Villa Baviera, formerly Colonia Dignidad, a communal farm Schaefer founded in 1961 in southern Chile.

A German army nurse during World War II, Schaefer also faces charges in Chile of helping the secret police kidnap a political prisoner during the country's 1973-90 military dictatorship.

Schaefer was transported late Saturday by ambulance to the airport from a hospital outside Buenos Aires, where he had stayed overnight after his blood pressure surged, doctors said.

"We have achieved our objective. The relationship between Argentina and Chile is at its best," Argentina's Interior Minister Anibal Fernandez told reporters after the plane took off.

Chile had asked Argentina to deport Schaefer rather than start lengthy extradition proceedings. His expulsion comes just before Argentine President Nestor Kirchner is due to make a state visit to Chile on Monday.

Schaefer was also wanted on abuse charges in Germany.

Before disappearing in 1997, Schaefer lived at Colonia Dignidad with some 300 German followers who worshiped him as a god and had almost no contact with the outside world.

A former secret police official previously testified that the secret police worked with the cult.

Cult members have denied they participated in torture but said they had friendly relations with the military, with whom they shared anti-communist philosophies
