If Chile and Argentina request the joint seat for the Football World Cup in 2014, they can perfectly be the organizers, said FIFA president Joseph Blatter who added that South America has been chosen as host of the 2014 Cup.
"South America has a long and valuable record and is entitled to organize the Cup: they've won it nine times, Brazil five, Argentina and Uruguay two each and FIFA has decided on South America", insisted Mr. Blatter.
"Some believe we are thinking in Brazil but other federations have the chance to present organization proposals; we had two countries host the 2002 Cup, why not also the 2014 Cup?"
Mr. Blatter recalled that the last time a Cup was disputed in Latinamerica was Mexico 1986 and in South America, Argentina 1978.
The 2010 FIFA Cup will be played for the first time in South Africa.
The issue will be addressed in the coming meetings of the FIFA Organizing Committee, presided by Lennart Johansson from Sweden and with Julio Grondona as vicepresident.
