The hydrocarbons seismic surveying vessel “GSI Admiral”, currently under contract in Falkland Islands' waters called in Punta Arenas for two weeks maintenance and repairs, reports the local press.

Specifically equipped Canadian flagged GSI Admiral is 93 metres long and belongs to Geophysical Service Incorporated from Alberta, operating from Halifax, Nova Scotia.

Acquired in May 2001, the vessel is capable of towing up to four streamers, 6 kilometres in length and equipped to shoot 2D or small 3D seismic programs.

Besides the South Atlantic she has surveyed the North Sea, Panama, Canada and the Gulf of Mexico.

Guy Northcott head of the vessel's surveying team said that they usually work on minimum two/three month contracts with a crew of 33, mostly scientists, collecting data which helps to determine potential areas for further exploration.

During the time spent in Punta Arenas a new crew arrived for "GSI Admiral".
