Maersk-Sealand extends operations to Ushuaia

Maersk-Sealand announced this week that it had began operating its own depot in Ushuaia, Tierra del Fuego. Depot operations actually began on July 10th with the call of Maersk Ferroll.

Maersk Sealand's depots presence in Argentina's South Atlantic coastland includes Mar del Plata, Puerto Madryn, Puerto Deseado and San Antonio Este. The chain of depots, which now includes Ushuaia, has become an integrated part of Maersk Sealand's service underlining the company's commitment to the Patagonian market.

The depot is located 3 kilometers from the port of Ushuaia and it offers a variety of facilities such as: 7000 m2 of container yard, 750 m2 of warehouse, 100 m2 of office space, a 42 ton top loader, a 25 ton forklift and a 2,5 ton forklift.

In addition, 60 plugs for reefer containers, 4 docking areas for container stuffing and 10 reefer units for cold storage will be available in October 2005 if the weather allows.

The new depot will further support growth in the community of Ushuaia that over the past years has experienced a significant expansion of fishing activities and in other sectors such as textiles and electronics, and the cruise industry.
