Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez said Thursday in Argentina that his government is no threat to Latin America, despite what the United States may think.
After meeting with Argentine counterpart Nestor Kirchner, with whom he signed several important trade agreements in Casa Rosada (Government House), Chavez in a lengthy speech attacked President George W. Bush and his administration.
"They repeat again and again that Venezuela is a threat to the region, but we brother peoples know the truth: we're making efforts to recover the stability lost in the region" blasted President Chavez who was applauded several times.
The Venezuelan leader renewed his commitment to purchase 500 million US dollars of Argentine debt bonds, which he called "Kirchner Bonds"
Mr. Kirchner made it a point to thank Chavez for the "ongoing purchase of bonds" as well as for the "constant backing" before international credit institutions.
Venezuela's support for Argentina's Malvinas/Falkland Islands sovereignty claim was also highlighted.
"The (Argentine) people have memory and will not forget this demonstration of support and encouragement" added President Kirchner.
Chavez is in Argentina as the second leg of the regional tour he began Wednesday in Uruguay and which will conclude in Brazil on Friday.
