The first Falklands Gun Club Shotgun Challenge took place on what can only be described as a windswept Phillips Point Range this weekend.

The competition, the brainchild of Club Treasurer Jon Butler, involved CBFSAI heading a team of six and facing His Excellency The Governor's team of six. Much practice ensued prior to the event with both CBF and His Excellency working hard on improving their scores.

The day consisted of three rounds of shooting, 50 DTL birds, 50 Skeet birds and 20 sporting birds (shortened from 50 due to time and weather constraints). 9 points separated the teams with CBF's VI moving ahead of the Governors VI following the skeet round. The DTL round saw CBF's best shots not able to make the grade in the very blustery conditions and the Governors VI move well ahead. A shortened sporting round of only 20 birds saw CBF's VI make some headway but they were not able to make up the huge amount needed following the DTL round.

Overall winners on the day were HE The Governor's VI with a total of 590 points. The Governors VI were HE The Governor Howard Pearce ©, Steve Dent, Jon Butler, Graham Didlick, Henry McLeod, John Clark. CBF' VI team amassed a total of 489 points. CBF's team were Commander British Forces Commander Ian Moncreife ©, Stevie Burrows, Ed Burrows, Dave Snell, John Eaton and Joe Joseph.

The competition for ?top gun' for the day was very close. All shooters struggled in the conditions and most shooters shot well below their average scores. Top Gun for the day as John Eaton from CBF's team on 122 points with Jon Butler and Graham Didlick following in second and third with 119 and 115 points respectively.
