British Ambassador in Chile presents credentials

Her Majesty's Ambassador to Chile, Howard Drake OBE, presented his credentials to President Ricardo Lagos at the Palacio de La Moneda on October 4th, 2005.

Howard Drake's career on the Diplomatic Service has been largely focused on political and commercial affairs. His first overseas assignment from 1981-83 was to Los Angeles (California) as Vice-Consul Commercial.

In 1985 he served in Santiago (Chile) as Second Secretary Political until 1988. In the early 1990's, Howard Drake was Head of Chancery in Singapore. From 1997 until 2002, he served in New York as Deputy Consul-General and Director of Inward Investment.

Back in the FCO in London, Howard Drake worked on European Union Affairs, Cyprus, and counter-proliferation. Before being assigned to Chile, he was working in the area of Human Resources.

Ambassador Drake succeeds Mr. Richard Wilkinson CVO who is retiring from the Diplomatic Service.

He is married to Gillian and has a son and a daughter.
