Britain's Secret Intelligence Service (SIS) has launched its own website, in order to inform the public about the organisation as well to increase the public's knowledge of the organisation's role and responsibilities.
The new MI6 website offers information about the SIS and the history of the organisation including information about careers within the service. It is hoped that the website will also help to promote the SIS' current staff recruitment drive.
However, the website will maintain protection of the security of SIS operations. No details about secret operations, staff, agents or locations will be revealed, for obvious security reasons.
It strikes a balance between openness and protecting the security of SIS operations, said the official release.
Commenting on the website, Foreign Secretary Jack Straw said: "As well as exhibiting the full facts about the Service in one user-friendly website. I hope that this display of openness will help the public learn more about SIS and increase the appreciation of why SIS' vital secrets must be preserved."
The website is divided into the following major sections: About Us, Legislation and Accountability, Careers and History and Records. SIS according to the website was started in 1909.
MI6 website can be accessed at www.sis.gov.uk or www.mi6.gov.uk
