Lan Chile advanced its season's flights between Punta Arenas and Ushuaia, --Argentine Tierra del Fuego? a month and a half because of the strong demand.

This season's first flight actually occurred last Monday with 50 passengers travelling to Ushuaia according to Paola Contardo, Lan regional manager in Punta Arenas.

Last season (December-March) Lan Chile link between Punta Arenas and Ushuaia transported 4.200 passengers but "we're determined to increase that number", said Ms. Contardo.

Lan flies the Tierra del Fuego link three times a week, Monday, Wednesday and Saturday as an extension of the main Santiago-Puerto Montt-Punta Arenas route.

Flights leave Santiago's main airport at 08:30 in the morning and arrive in Ushuaia 14:30 hours. Return leg takes off at 15:15 arriving in Santiago 21:20 hours.

The normal round fare Punta Arenas/Ushuaia/Punta Arenas is 99 US dollars but during October Lan has special promotions as low as 10 and 40 US dollars which can be checked in the company's website. Flights are in Lan's Airbus A 319.
