The first exports flight carrying 16 tons of shrimp processed in the Argentine Patagonian province of Chubut left the Comodoro Rivadavia airport en route to Europe.

The shipment, carried out by the Argenova company aboard an Aerolineas Argentinas Boeing 737, is destined for Vigo, Spain, official sources said.

The shipment was carried out amid a major operative display, with the participation of the provincial production ministry, the national customs administration, the national food safety service, the air force, and the exporting company.

Three months ago, the provincial government together with the airline company made the presentation of the logistic possibility to export via air, from the main cities in the province.

"This initial flight is available for regional producers that want to reach international markets," explained Chubut's production minister Martín Buzzi. The official added that "in competitive terms, this puts the province at top level. The cargo that is loaded on trucks and then on international flights has a significant backlog."

The minister explained that the cargo that was shipped this week, "from a city with its own flights, that connect directly with international markets, allow for production to be delivered within 24 hours."

Buzzi highlighted that this new service places Chubut and Comodoro Rivadavia on an international level. "This puts us on the same level as the great capitals and regions of the world, that have an air cargo system, but also consolidates the productive system, since we are now able to sell the product at greater value due to its fresh quality," Buzzi said.
