Tierra del Fuego Senator Mario Domingo Daniele pledged this week to renew his commitment in denouncing “the illegitimacy of the Malvinas fishing licences awarded by Great Britain”.

Speaking to the press in Ushuaia Senator Daniele from the ruling Justicialista Party said that "fishing in Malvinas is as illegitimate as the occupation of the Islands".

Daniele added that fisheries is a "fundamental" issue since it's the main economic resource of the Islands and "is part of what belongs by right to our country (Argentina)".

The Argentine government has interpreted the Falklands government decision to issue long term fishing licences, up to 25 years, as an "illicit and unilateral" non friendly action promising to counteract accordingly.

Last November Senator Daniele presented a bill in the Senate rejecting the Falklands long term licencing policy and proposing sanctions to all those companies "operating in the Malvinas zone with double licences (issued by Argentina and United Kingdom)".
