Tango dancing crowd takes over Buenos Aires

A huge open ball with an estimated 10.000 couples dancing “milonga” Saturday night in the heart of Buenos Aires was the highlight of the ten days long Tango Festival, organized by the city's government.

A parade of orchestras, from the more classical groups with their traditional instruments to the modern version with electronic gear entertained the several thousands crowd of tango fans next to the city's obelisk in one of the world's widest avenues.

Professional dancers, Buenos Aires residents and an incredible number of tourists from all over the world joined the popular ball where the experimented tango fans mingled with the new generations who have helped rocket the tango culture to world stage.

Considered the most important tango festival in the world the show began February 24 and played in 59 theatres, cultural centres and open spaces of Argentina's capital.

The eighth edition also included the participation of musical groups from such distant places as Rotterdam, Holland and Tokyo, Japan.

Besides the massive dance display, the event which proved most successful and attracted 175.000 fans, mainly foreigners, was the open tango dance classes that took place during the ten days of the festival.
