Normal air services between Gibraltar airport and Madrid Barajas are to commence next December 16th, according to a joint press statement from the participants in the Forum of Dialogue on Gibraltar released Friday.

The decision is in accordance with the Ministerial Statement on Gibraltar Airport agreed in Cordoba on 18th September 2006 between United Kingdom, Spain and Gibraltar.

Accordingly, with effect also from 16 December 2006, all other transitional arrangements envisaged in paragraphs 14 and 15 of the Cordoba Airport Statement will also take or have taken effect.

The work on the project for the construction of the terminal and other civil works required both on the south and north sides of the fence/border have commenced and the participants in the Forum of Dialogue on Gibraltar will keep each other fully informed of progress in these works liaising with each other as may be necessary.

The Permanent Joint Liaison Committee agreed in the Statement to consider at a technical level any problem or issue relating to the functioning of these arrangements will meet before the end of the year.
