Lord Triesman to visit Falklands

Government House in Stanley has announced that Lord Triesman, the Foreign and Commonwealth Office Minister responsible for relations with the UK Overseas Territories, will visit the Falkland Islands on December 15th and 16th.

During his short stay, Lord Triesman will meet Councillors, senior officials, and members of the Chamber of Commerce. The Commander of British Forces South Atlantic Islands will also give Lord Triesman a military briefing at the Mount Pleasant Complex.

His Excellency the Governor Alan Huckle will host Lord Triesman and his party at a dinner at Government House, and there will also be an opportunity for the minister to meet the press.

According the a statement from Government House, as well as discussing issues affecting the Falklands and hearing first hand about matters of concern to Falkland Islanders, Lord Triesman will also be in the Islands to, "appreciate the substantial social and economic progress that has been made in recent years."

After his visit, Lord Triesman will travel on to Chile for an official visit.
