THE Falkland Islands Government has launched an updated website -

— which provides visitors with a comprehensive overview of today's Falklands.
According to a government press release, it introduces the Islands as "a dynamic UK Overseas Territory" and includes up to date news and contemporary images of the modern Falklands. "Visitors have the opportunity to learn about the history, geography, environment and heritage of the Islands which will be commemorating the 25th anniversary of the 1982 Conflict next year. "The site also details the driving forces behind the Islands' impressive economic development over the past 25 years, offering insight into the Falklands' fisheries, agriculture, minerals and tourism industries as well as new diversification initiatives and the Islands thriving private sector." The organisation of the Falkland Islands Government (FIG) is outlined and details are included on the Islands international relationships. Links to other websites and useful addresses complement the information given. Visitors to the site can gain a glimpse into Falkland Islanders' daily lives with sections on people, sport and recreation and public services. A media centre is under development, including an image gallery, with a view to the world's spotlight falling on the Islands during 2007. Penguin News
