British Ambassador in Chile Howard Drake said that security measures surrounding the legation premises in Santiago have been increased following the attack on the embassy late Sunday evening.

The Embassy located in one of the Chilean capital posh districts Las Condes apparently suffered the attack at 22:15 local time. The explosion on the first floor caused damage to windows and doors of the embassy but fortunately no person was injured. "In these days all embassies must reinforce security. Only two weeks ago we had problems in London; we are constantly upgrading our security systems, but what really matters is that we will continue to work", Ambassador Drake told reporters. At the time of the explosion Las Condes was packed with people in local restaurants and pubs. A detachment of the local Carabineros station, fire brigades and a unit of Special Forces was immediately deployed in the area. Experts from the Criminal Department Laboratory searched for samples of the explosive artifact to determine leads and its possible origin. So far there are no official reports as to the origin or motive of the attack and no group has attributed credit for the explosion. The British Embassy building is just meters away from the embassy of Israel.
