The Illex squid season in the Uruguay/Argentina Common Fisheries Zone, CFZ, ends next August 31st, according to a release from the Maritime Front Joint Technical committee.
The decision was taken based on scientific data collected during recent weeks by both sides. The squid season was opened last April 15. Uruguay and Argentina's Foreign Affairs ministries were informed of the resolution which was simultaneously published in the Official Gazettes of both countries August 24. The resolution also contemplates strong fines for transgressors. Following on the 1973 agreement which outlined Uruguay and Argentina's limits in the River Plate, a joint Maritime Front technical committee was established to manage the shared waters. The common fisheries area, beyond the 12 miles, is determined by two circumference arches of 200 miles radius taking as centre points Punta del Este in Uruguay and Punta Rasa del Cabo San Antonio on the Argentine coast.
