Puerto Montt, the capital of Chile's Lake District, is expecting a record 100,000 tourist to arrive in the upcoming holiday season aboard luxury cruisers.

According to the Puerto Montt Port Company, about 60 cruise liners with 100,000 passengers aboard are expected to dock there between November and April. The figures are well above the numbers for the previous year, which saw just 75,000 cruiser tourists stop off in Puerto Montt. The cruise ship season, which starts on 18 November, will be kicked off with the arrival of 1,200 tourists and 600 crew members aboard the Norwegian Dream. The biggest cruise liner that is expected in Puerto Montt is the 294 meter-long Infinity, which will carry close to 3,000 passengers. Meanwhile, the port of Valparaiso is to expect 45 dockings and approximately 88,000 tourists. The Santiago Times
