United States Ambassador to Argentina Anthony Wayne warned that Argentina should “consider the international context” when taking economic decisions. However, he also emphasized that the present world economic situation had “positive elements” and offered “advantageous opportunities” for Argentina.

According to the Argentine DyN news agency Wayne said on Tuesday that "it's a difficult moment for the world economy," and highlighted the fact that, "it's a situation in which Argentina has many advantages, for example the high price of commodities". Nevertheless, he warned: "It's important to reflect on what measures might produce good results," and signaled that Argentina should "consider the international context". Ambassador Wayne was also asked for his views regarding the current controversy about the possibility of "cooling down" the Argentine economy. "Many opinions are being voiced but I don't want to enter into the debate," he answered. Nonetheless, he recommended considering the international context. Martin Lousteau resigned as Economy minister last month after presenting a document to President Cristina Fernández de Kirchner which supposedly called for cooling down the economy as a means to combat inflation, one of the Argentine public opinion main concerns.
