Argentina exports 4.124 tons of ovine meat in five months

During the first five months of 2008, lamb and mutton exports from Argentina totaled 4.124 tons equivalent to 15.1 million US dollars which represents a 5% increase in volume and 19% in value, according to the latest statistics from SENASA, the Agro-food health and quality service.

A year ago exports in the first five months of 2007 reached 3.937 tons and 5.7 million US dollars. Argentina's main market was Spain with 1.461 tons followed by Portugal, 492 tons, UK, 427 tons, France, 246, Israel, 211 and Belgium and Saudi Arabia 174 tons each. In the same period avian meats and sub-products reached 68.991 tons equivalent to 100.5 million US dollars, a 23% volume increase and 51% in value. The main destinations for fresh avian exports were Chile, Venezuela, South Africa, Germany, Holland, Saudi Arabia, UK and Greece; sub products, 20.948 tons, were mostly for China, Hong Kong and Vietnam. Processed avian meat, 1.622 tons went mostly for Germany and Holland.
