The Royal Navy's Ice Patrol Ship HMS Endurance is undertaking a high profile deployment to West Africa to highlight the effects of Climate Change and the importance of Maritime Security.

The week long visit of HMS Endurance to Ghana beginning next August 18 coincides with high level talks under the auspices of the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC). HMS Endurance, in her capacity as a platform for world class climate and ecological research, is the host vessel for key climate change seminars involving key British and Ghanaian Governmental and non-Governmental organisations. These include the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), the Met Office, the British Council, Friends of the Earth and the Department for International Development (DFID). In parallel, members of the ships company have raised funding onboard and will be helping to refurbish the Orphans Cry Orphanage in Takoradi, Western Ghana. Further details about HMS Endurance on her way to Antarctica on her 18 month deployment are available on her Tracking Website at www.visitandlearn.co.uk
