LAN Airlines, Chile's flag air carrier was once again named the best South American Company at the most recent World Airline Awards, given by the British market research company Sky Trax.

The 2008 awards were based on an annual worldwide passenger poll carried out by Sky Trax. The study, which was conducted between August of 2007 and June of 2008, is the largest worldwide poll taken with airline customers and includes approximately 15 million interviews with passengers of 95 nationalities. The analysis measured approximately 35 different aspects related to passenger satisfaction concerning the quality of products and services for each company evaluating both the travel experience onboard the flight and on land. The study, known as the World Airline Survey is considered to be the foremost instrument for gaining information about airline customer satisfaction throughout the world. The investigation employs a unique analysis method that involves the opinions of passengers traveling for either business or pleasure in all cabin classifications (First Class, Business, Premium Coach and Coach). LAN is Chile's main domestic airline and has affiliates in Peru, Argentina, Ecuador and Dominican Republic plus interests in Brazil and United States carriers. The fleet has almost a hundred aircrafts with an average age of 5.6 years. The Lan group employs over 11.000 people.
