“A Penguin’s World” is a new title by the publishing house Design In Nature who specialize in aspects of nature and the environment, especially that of the Falkland Islands. This book portrays those amazing birds, penguins, a species, which are a feature of the Falklands and where they breed in large numbers.

This work brings together a collection of stunning photographs along with informative text about a Penguin’s World. The authors and designers of this title, who reside in the Islands and work with such species, have endeavoured to show not only the fascinating aspects of these birds, but their amazing resilience and the life they lead when they come ashore to breed. The six species of penguin found in the Falkland Islands are featured, but for readers to understand a little more of this penguin’s world, some species that associate with or prey on penguins are included.

This jacketed hardback measuring 140 x 225 mm contains 83 colour and 4 monochrome photographs by the authors and is printed on gloss art. Design In Nature endeavour to produce books of high quality with photographs of artistic merit. The authors, a father and daughter team, work as designers, photographers and publishers, with an important aspect of their work being to promote the Falkland Islands as a valuable and pristine wilderness area.

Ian Strange was born in Lincolnshire and first came to the Falkland Islands in 1959. He remained in the Islands and has to this day pursued a freelance career, as a naturalist, wildlife artist, photographer and stamp designer. Ian has authored ten books, three of which he and his daughter Georgina have published under their imprint of Design In Nature. He has travelled extensively around the Islands, particularly to the more remote offshore islands, photographing and reporting on the wealth of wildlife to be found, in order to initiate measures to protect such areas. Since 1972 he has operated New Island as a wildlife reserve and founded the New Island Conservation Trust. This registered charity encourages research into all aspects of biological research for the benefit of conservation. Ian was awarded an MBE in 1992 for his work in conservation.

Georgina Strange was born in Argentina in 1981, and raised in the Falkland Islands where she first developed her passion for wildlife, photography of nature and the environment. She spent some years in Australia where she completed her Bachelor of Photography degree. She now continues to pursue her interest in wildlife photography in the Falkland Islands. Georgina’s first publication was “Atmosphere” Landscapes of the Falkland Islands, a lavish showcase of photographs of the Islands beautiful scenery. This present title A Penguin’s World is her third publication and is a continuation of efforts to raise awareness about the importance of conserving our natural world.
