Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi proposed a military alliance mirroring the North Atlantic Treaty Organization, to counteract the influence of the US and Europe during the second Africa-South America summit held over the weekend in Margarita island, Venezuela and which convened almost sixty leaders.     No one should be listening to Mr. Muammar Gaddafi. Politically aligning a nation with radicalist such as Gaddafi and Chavez is a mistake of epic proportion which could have potentially deleterious effects for decades.

    SATO is not a bad idea. It would actually be good, especially for the African continent. Of course, the two biggest concerns are the two proponents of this plan, as well as the anti-Americanism woven into the plan. However, such a move could be benefitial as far as promoting security and stability in Africa and economic development in South America.
