You can call them what you like Quini and gdr, it's not going to change the reality... the Falklands are British until the Falkland Islanders decide otherwise.

they got a point,besides..who gives a shit about the non existing oil they pretend to drill for? we got plenty of oil down here and the extraction is cheaper..i know it defeats the purpose of sovereignty over argentinian territory, but thats a dif story..

robert, the islanders dont get to decide who rules them, governments are..or,did the honk kong legitimate residents (chinese) decided when honk kong was to be handed back to china?,u cant have double standards when it comes to legitimacy and make a valid point..i say until decided otherwise by the proper authority (the hague court) the islands should belong to both countries, therefore decision making should involve both governments..(this was proposed to the argentinian government by the british council during the war,but the offer was quicky withdrown right after the Flagship Gral Belgrano was sunk)

Jorge Luis Borges had defined the fight between Argentines and British over these windswept islands: Two baldmen fighting for a comb...

But now it's oil, supposedly.

Q: Should any large oilspill occur, who's going to pay for the damages?

A: Wildlife.
Ref Comment 12 Max.
You try to compare Hong Kongs situation with Falkland I´s. ...
In 1898 China and G.B. made a contract about H.K..
In this contract they agreed that G.B. leased H.K for a period of 99 years.
When this period was gone in 1997, China did not want to prolonge the contract, and therefore G.B. peacefully left H.K. There is absolutely no similarity with the Falkland Is. situation. Try to read some history and find a better example. That one you used here is simply hopeless.(nonsence).

We have learned from Resistance in Iraq that to defeat high tech invaders you need just four stuffs:
1. Improvised Explosive Device (minas de carretera para demolerles el
abastecimiento a los invasores
2. Night glass (lentes mira nocturna)
3 RPG (Rockect Propelled Grenade)
4.Mouth-to Mouth communication

With those four elements the Resistence in Iraq and Afganistan has achieved the militar balance with USA and its follower UK. No conventional war anymore!

Nato does not have “ sophisticated land force” to land war ..
already they do not make “war” at Iraq and Afganistan !!
just settled to protect present “ Iran ” regime !!
these 3 countries very important which aiming to hold some
oil reserves and to establish as “ balance power ” against
Russia...China ..India on the Asia Zone !!

if you see real “” land war “” you must organize serious wars
at the North America,,,Subsahara,,,Middle East ,,,Middle Asia
no any other place to stress out !!

    viva Cenghiz Khan !! i can't see a commander like him !!
once he blocked a town and promised that nobody will be killed !
but after the capture he buried alive everybody . .was man of his word ?!

#18 Jorge: In what venue would Argentina sue the companies and for what damages? What court has jurisdiction? Argentina doesn't have a very good record suing anything, you are losing in NYC with Griesa, The Hague against Uruguay and have lost every case in front of ICSID but have refused to pay the judgements. Maybe if ARG started living up to their contracts the world would take you seriously.

Say what you wish islanders here, you'll have a very very difficult time this time again and not because you resort to the military threat to be once again. Argentines DO have a case, you DO know this and live obsessed with this. Wish it or not you won't live in peace ever till you move back to your motherland! You may say you have been on the islands for 200 hundred years but that will never entitle you to what is and was never yours. This is it and not only because Argentina so states.

Jorge, yes you might have a case but comparing your case to the British case is like comparing a small fart to a thunderstorm. Your case is fundamentally flawed in so many respects and in fact a very weak case. And since you are on the topic of motherlands, why don't you Argentines all go back to Spain/Italy/Germany etc? Why don't you get over the fact that Argentina has never had clear title to the Falklands, not now and not in 1833. As for an obsession, it's funny how many stadiums, avenues etc are names after the “Malvinas” in Argentina. If anyone is obsessed it is you guys!

J.A.Roberts, I won't go down as coarse as you are, firstly. It is your own government (UK, of course) which has recognised many times in history that your case is weak, revise history then. Argentines declared independence from our “motherland” and inherited the whole of her territory, including the islands you occupy now, that's a fact too. And your obsession is so evident that it simply makes me laugh, sorry to tell you. 2000 and something souls conspiryin day and night! Poor you, it´s a encouraging for Argentina to pursue in its firm stance then!

@jorge. I love the way you revise history. Like hell Argentina “inherited” anything from Spain. You got the bits you managed to take by force at the time and that's all. Unfortunately for you, your attempts at taking the Falklands failed. Get over it. The Falklands were governed out of Montevideo towards the end of Spanish rule, so your assertion falls at the first hurdle anyway.

@exocet. Well you quite obviously missed my point - so what can we conclude? Nothing more than pure ivory between your ears mate!

Jorge, you mainly refer to events, which happened in ca 1833. You want your national borders ought to be like they were at that time, because if so Falklands or Malvinas (name of french origin) would belong to Argentina. Very well !! Look at a geographical map from that time and you will be surprised. In 1833 Juan Manuel De Rosa initiated a war against the indigenous people in the western parts of what is to day called Argentina (Conquest of the desert).
Now comes the point ! Do you want to give back the land you stole from the indigenous people or ....

To mr J.A. Roberts
I somehow admire you because you have the patience responding people who never will/want understand your well based arguments.
By the way, i am not British/English ( I am a Scandinavian) but i am able to read. I read in particular history, and because i try to find and use neutral sources, i think i can evaluate/distinguish between facts and nationalistic propaganda.
Apology for spelling faults. As told , i am Scandinavian, sry.

Just catching up with the conversation. Jorge does make me laugh. He claims the Falklands has an obsession over Argentina...that statement alone proves he knows nothing about the situation or anything about the Falklands. It is Argentina that is obsessed with the Falklands. Creating laws that hinder Falklands Islands economic development, frantically creating pathetic protests over the Falklands developing their hydrocarbons, Argentina complaining to the Spanish Government that the Falklands were invited to a conference, I can go on and on.

And I wont forget that Jorge is also obsessed. Every time i check Mercopress for Falklands news, who has written a deluded, ignorant and factual incorrect comment....Jorge! Every time without delay. And it is the some old stuff as well, Pirates, the people of the Falkland's “fear”, motherland, one day the Falklands will belong to Argentina “again” blah blah blah. Jorge you need to start saying something new, or at least something based on reality. I think you should come to the Falklands Jorge, you might actually learn something!
