The significant and numerous attendances to the World Economic Forum, Latin American chapter, taking place in Cartagena, Colombia, shows that “the Democratic Security policy has gained back confidence in Colombia” said Colombian President Álvaro Uribe during a radio interview.
“I have been informed that we have beaten the attendance record. If we compare that with the meeting held in Brazil and the meeting held in Mexico, we have beaten a record with more than 550 high-level investors from 44 countries and 250 international economic journalists”, said Uribe.
He emphasized how positive that is, considering that Colombia is today a very important destiny for investment in the world. “And those two elements, security and investment, help us finance social policies, so the country can overcome poverty, so the country can build equity”.
The Colombian president stated that since Cartagena is the host city, the international business event could bring economic growth to the country, which will be reflected on its social and economic development.
Uribe pointed out that the WEF is over 40 years old and the first time it takes place in Colombia. ”This is why we have put great interest in its organization, to make it a success and for Colombia to do it right and to satisfy everyone. We want this event to be of use for the Colombian, Latin American and global economic juncture, to think of the economy in the medium and long term”, said Uribe.
“We have placed all our efforts these years in building trust for Colombia. Hosting this meeting in Cartagena is an expression of trust in our country, one we must live up to. When it comes to investment trust, hosting this meeting is a milestone. That is why we have placed great importance in it. We do not want to spare any efforts in guaranteeing the meeting’s success”, emphasized the Colombia president.
