Paraguay’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed Friday Egypt had lifted the ban on Paraguayan beef exports which was imposed last December.

Egypt’s Agriculture ministry accepted the arguments presented by Paraguay to reopen the market for Paraguayan beef as long as it complies with sanitary regulations, which will be particularly severe.

The presentation of the sanitary program was drafted and presented in Cairo by Paraguay’s Foreign Trade and Investments Office and through the embassy in Egypt, revealed the Foreign Affairs ministry.

Daniel Rojas, head of the National Food Quality and Animal Health (Senacsa) said last February that Paraguayan beef exports to Egypt are in the range of 20 million US dollars annually

Egypt banned Paraguayan beef following proven irregularities in the meat process at the Carpe Diem abattoir.

Paraguay’s main beef clients are Russia and Chile.
