Not in the Falkland Islands though. The opportunists, with regard to the Falklands, were in fact Argentina.

By the way - using your logic, such as it is, you would have to concur that Argentina was being opportunist in the 1870's during its little Conquest of the Desert!

I note that once more the Argentines posting here don't respond when it is pointed out to them the hypocrisy of their claim given their genocidal colonial past. What is wrong with these people? Are they too ashamed to admit to it or does 'playing' the victim somehow wipe the memory of their colonial crimes away?

gdr - you say that you have to be patient!!! That is nothing compared to what everyone else feels when you Argentines repeat the same tired comments, despite being shown all the facts that dispute such comments.

You still refuse to acknowledge your countries crimes of colonialism/genocidal past and instead try to change the subject, divert attention away, ignore it or refuse to accept it.

But you are correct to say that Argentina is different culturely and that is why the people of the Falkland Islands do not want your culture imposed upon them nor do they seem to want to be ruled by you.

There will be no knocking at the door of Chavez, as he is nothing and has nothing, oil doesn't last forever you know! We're quite happily developing our green energy and nuclear industry at the moment, 20 years time we will be a carbon free country, so then what will we need from Chavez or any other pathetic autocratic idiot in south America.

As for process of destruction like the Roman empire, you do know the roman empire was destroyed and sacked no less than 6 times and still came back? And that it was never actually destroyed but continued right up until the creation of the italian state?

Oh Jorge you better come up with a better analogdy than that!

But the question remains, what destruction? I think your just speaking out of turn again as per usual nothing constructive, no knowledge just like a parrot, it can't really speak it imitates, just like the entire Argentine nation, the big one speaks and the masses imitate

What about your colonialist adventures mate?
In India, Pakistan, China, Egypt, Palestine, South Africa, Australia, US, and more recent... Iraq, Afghanistan, etc, etc, etc.

The remaining aborigines in north america are not happy with you. Do you know that? You almost exterminated them.

@ 69 NicoDin - well, as ever you jump in without having understood. I have never denied the UK past - what I was drawing upon was the colonial history of Argentina - something that many Argies posting here fail to recognise. Oh - whilst the UK, along with France, Germany, USA etc have a long colonial past it was Spain and Portugal that can be said to have started European colonialism - one that was genocidal. Something that, yet again, has been ignored - by you in this case. I am pointing out Argentine hypocrasy in that it isn't innocent in this regard but chooses to call others out. Not that I expect you to understand this point. As to you waiting for and wanting an apology - no way. If you didn't get the point then you are far too dim to care anyway.

    NicoDin,

I don't think a single one of the Brits who post to this website has denied the British colonial past. We all know very well what happened in the British Empire - the good AND the bad. We also acknowledge our involvement in slavery - something I notice Argentina, once a slave-owning nation, does not address in any way.

What you can't seem to get into your thick skull is that our Empire ended decades ago. The last major colony was given its independence in 1980. Most of them before that during the 1960s and the first to get it was in 1948. That's over 60 years ago when we started to dismantle our Empire. And yet you still try to pin an imperialist badge to us. What history does Argentina have of giving away territory and independence to the indigenous people of Argentina?

Finally, when you factor in what you Argentines did during the Conquest of the Desert, and continue to do to this day to the native people of Argentina then you most certainly do not have a leg to stand on. In fact it is you who is the hypocrite - and of the worst kind.

Sorry Christopher UK & co, but I don’t understand your logic and do you know why?
Because you are confused about us.

You are making a huge mistake we have nothing to do with Spain as you have nothing to do with the Roman Empire. Do you understand the idea?

The Romans colonized what is today UK in the year 55 and 54 before Jesus Christ and left and later they came again and created The city of London (the name of London was in honor of a Roman general from the legions called Londinium),
They also named the Island Britannia or Magna Bretagna this is written in the official documents found in the Oxford University and in accordance with the records kept by the Romans cartographers.

Romans had created the whole British civilization including commerce, the estate organization, bring the tax concept, money, parliament, bridges, pipes, water installation, bath, Roman Greek alphabetic, the writing, church and part of your language.

In fact the Roman legions sent to conquer what is today Britain were from Iberia peninsula (today Spain and Portugal).

And they stayed in the UK 400 hundred years. Hum! You seem to be pretty Latin I guess.

See the map of the Roman Empire Oops there is a province of the empire called Britain. Bloody bastards they made you Latin as well...
    http://es.wikipedia.org/wiki/Archivo:Roman_Empire_map.svg

    Hallo, sum wav foug Mediterranean?

So my friend, will you apologize to the Celts, North African, etc killed by your relatives the Romans because they make up Great Britain?

    I guess you don’t. I’m right?

We are not Spanish like you are not Romans, Spanish or Portuguese we both Brits and Argies speak a language related or deviated from Latin and mixture of Celts languages like the Gaelic stuff plus many other continental European languages.

Some people are descendent from Spanish but a lot are from Italian, German, French, Polish, Ukrainian, Russian, Netherlands, etc, etc.

If you want to find Spanish start at home Michel Portillo your Shadow Chancellor of the Exchequer could be a good start.

sorry mate but your attempt at jejune sophistry just does NOT wash. Can you take out a second to think as to why? Again - I advise you not to jump into anything without thinking first. As ever we have yet more examples of Argentine double speak...is it any wonder why the good people of the Falkland Islands want nothing to do with you?

Julia Roberts or Julio Roberts, please be smart You are not getting any way here with your reminiscence of the Conquest of the Desert or dessert? Can I have chocolate Ice cream please?.

Try another please even the most proud aborigines of they culture will laugh about your statement.

Do you see any indigenous person here wanting to kill any Argy?

In fact if someone comes surely will want to kill you more than me.

Any person with aborigine ancestors from Argentina can help me to show my point please?

Do you think we are morons? What do you want to Establish or accomplish hey?

Your are 8.000 miles away from your little Island (Britain) you took by force these Islands, UN tells you that is colonization, I know you know we know. So make me a colonialist make you happy?

Do you think this will solve your illegal occupation problems?

Ok let’s as you are so concern about the aborigines killed by the bloody Spanish (you make me cry) let’s make a deal.

You go away from the Islands and we will give the entire mass of land of the archipelago (Malvinas, Georgias, etc, etc) to the aborigines.

That would be fair to every one and we solve both problems your moral hazard problem and concern about the natives murdered by the Spanish and we will try to repair in some way the damage, violation, etc. Made by the Spanish colonialist when they arrived here.

Were and when do we have to sign?

NicoDin in post #76 shows an example or two of just what was being referred to with regard to Argentine hypocrisy...you just don't get it do you.

The Falklands are not now, nor have they ever been, legally Argentine. You really do need to stop posting Argentine propaganda as it is always exposed as such. The history you have been taught is wrong.

The UK does not occupy the Falkland Islands illegally. The people of the Falkland Islands occupy the islands and the UN has enshrined their rights to self determination. For Argentina to try to ignore their rights and what they have expressed is an act of colonialism on the part of today's Argentina.

Here is the thing - what you argies fail to grasp. If the islanders wanted to have the title of the Falklands transfered to Argentina then the UK would. They do not want that to happen and the UN says that it cannot happen unless they say so.

Well when you repeat the same old lies and untruths - despite seeing the evidence - then yes, we do think that you are morons. It isn't a nice thing to think of someone but, when you are trying to impose colonialism on the Falkland Islanders, then you act like morons.

Wow! Mate you don’t stop to surprise me “jejune sophistry” ok you have show me that you did go to the school and can made some pompous statements (in your own language of course I shouldn’t expect more anyway) by reading your old Collins dictionary but empty of concepts.

Did you spend so much time to find “jejune sophistry” or was just delirium tremens?

By the way the “NOT wash” was really disappointing.

Ok lets go again do you know what is analogy? If so read it again because your anti-Argy rhetoric seems to don’t help you in any way.

“Can you take out a second to think as to why”

Show me master I will be very anxious waiting or may be not. How knows?

“is it any wonder why the good people of the Falkland Islands want nothing to do with you?”

Do you represent the good people from the Falkland Island master?

I only heard you and you and may be you and your partner J Roberts, There is no women in the islands? Or you are like the Talibans?

Any lady out there to have an intelligent conversation?

My first question is mister taliban allows you to answer.

Does he represent the view of all Islanders? We are complicated if so haha.

“It isn't a nice thing to think of someone but, when you are trying to impose colonialism on the Falkland Islanders, then you act like morons”

Did we invade UK? No we didn’t

You are the guys in some one else house trying to impose your rules backing from a dangerous, colonialist, warmonger country called UK. Do you understand the concept?

Do you need an international pool to understand that? Explain me Iraq and Afghanistan please all lies and more lies.

You have and strange concept about the situation here you will be right if we invade Scotland, Dover, Cardiff, Conway, Wells, London, etc.

While the Islanders keep they tied with UK Argentina and the Argentinos will see you as a danger to its security.

Your governments are bloody warmongers from the left to the right, provocative and stupid.

And in your politician’s culture there is a strange thinking that wars resolve internal problems an old rule extracted from Niccoló Machiavelli’s book “The prince”.

Can you count? See how many wars had Argentina in the last 100 years and see UK list. Argentina 1 with UK.

The list of UK wars will not fit in the 2000 characters allowed here.

Who is the Moron? And who doesn’t want anything to do with the other?

    Am I doing well Sir?

As I was so diligent and obedient (from the Latin oboidiens) and docile (Uff again from the Latin docilis) can you bring me some of this funny paper that your normally print with the face of Elizabeth Queen II with the number 100 in the front better known as Quids.

Because I have a little problem here Wanna (from the African Zulu when you exploit them as slaves).
I ran out of toilette paper and you know you pay so little and I found out that on this days I can use this funny papers printed by your government what are more cheaper than the toilette paper.

Me grateful Sir god bless you.

NicoDin, learn something about acquisition of territory in international law. The Falklands have never been Argentine territory. Argentina did not inherit the Falklands from Spain, nor did it ever establish effective control over the whole archipelago.

The Islander either and for that reason there is a territorial dispute, If someone make a claim (like Argentina did) there is not right settled. Basic knowledge of the litigation process so UK have to sit and make up its argument. And if you were reading your own press citing your own politicians off records your foreign office knows that very well.

Quote “we cannot make a strong case again Argentina without exposing us a colonialist” Guardian from your own govt. When consulting US about the matter.

”The Islander either and for that reason there is a territorial dispute, If someone make a claim (like Argentina did) there is not right settled. “

Nobody has ever said the UK acquired sovereignty through inheritence. That is the basis for Argentina's claim, not the basis for the UK's sovereignty. The UK has sovereignty because it is the only state that has established full and effective control over the entire archipelago for a long enough period. Full sovereignty was established after 1833, before 1833 different countries had limited control of small areas of the Falklands, Port Egmont, Port Louis, but not over the entire archipelago.

”Basic knowledge of the litigation process so UK have to sit and make up its argument. “

What litigation process? There is no litigation process. Argentina is too afraid to test its claim in any court. And Argentina as the claimant is the one that has to prove its claim. Basic principle of jurisprudence.

”And if you were reading your own press citing your own politicians off records your foreign office knows that very well.

Quote “we cannot make a strong case again Argentina without exposing us a colonialist” Guardian from your own govt. When consulting US about the matter.“

Some civil servant at the foreign office may have said that, but it has never been the position of any British government. I would be interested to see what evidence that civil servant based his argument on. Probably on the lies that Argentina inherited the Falklands from Spain and the UK expelled the population.

    ”Have a nice day.”

A good day to you, too
