“ ... demanded the charter includes a “democratic clause” ensuring and defending freedom and democracy in the continent...”

They'll be inviting the Falklands to join next :-)

“We believe Unasur will have full validity and force when integration becomes a reality in such simple acts as the roads system, telecommunications connectivity, but also when there is full respect for democracy and institutions in the continent”, he added.“

Like no more neo-imperialist colonial designs on the Falkland Islands.

”Finally the two Senators emphasized that the job of the Unasur Secretary General must be of full, exclusive dedication, which would mean that the current chair, former Argentine president Nestor Kirchner and his almost full time involvement in Argentine internal politics, makes him incompatible for such a responsibility.”

Altogether, the end of Kickback Kirchner's hopes of becoming Emperor of South America.

About time Chile and Uruguay spoke up for themselves.

    @Harrier

    Your forgot the part of

“ Chile can’t be out of an organization that includes all of South America’s countries”

So they can choose to don’t be part of UNASUR I don’t see what is the problem the rest of South America has not any problem and the world goes on.

So I don’t see how a declaration for domestic consumption in Chile from 2 senators will change a damn thing in UNASUR.

About your “About time Chile and Uruguay spoke up for themselves.”

Well they can make their own club and invite you to joint too.

I just wonder what can be the name?

    URUCHIFALK, CHIURKLAND, FALURCHI....

I think that the egos of all 3 are so big that they will never agree the name to start with.

Wait and see, boys. Neither Chile nor Uruguay actually like you very much. And both are beginning to realise that they don't need you.

I see Billious Haze still has no understanding of where democracy arose and how a constitutional monarchy works.

And we don't have to vote on the Constitution ... we spent a 1000 years fighting over it!

Yeahh, Mr. Kirchner & wife are the new monarchy in the region, trasppasing the office through the family....and I think that Falklands must be included in any organization in South America. BTW, the UNASUR is not necessary because we have already the OAS and its burocracy, so we not need more BURROcratas (burro=donkey) paid with our pocket money......wen they have a lot of money stolen from their countries ...
We just need cooperation in business, no more...and Brazil is not a good leader for us.....

Sergio. Allow me to give you what I hope will be a timely warning. In 1972 Britain joined what was then called “the Common Market”. It was represented as an association of countries for the purpose of trade. It was also suggested that, should the Soviets attack, the association would form the basis of a strategic defence. Over time, “the Common Market” turned into “the European Community” and then “the European Union”. It is generally expected that, in time, it will transition to “the United States of Europe” or, more likely, “the European Empire”. A couple of the unfortunate features of this “union” is that the organisation interferes more and more in the internal affairs of member countries and individual countries cannot necessarily do what is best for them because it would be against “Union” law.
Over time the British people have come to realise that this is a BAD thing, and it is now estimated that, if asked, at least 2/3rds of the British people would vote to leave the EU. But most of our politicians don't listen, either because they think they know better or because they think they can change things “from the inside”.
But the time is coming when they will listen and do what the people want, or suffer the consequences.
So my warning is: don't let your country get involved in something similar. In Europe, there ARE elected members of the European Parliament but they are essentially meaningless. The Union is run by its bureaucrats, who listen to no-one. For Britain, it has only taken 38 years for much of our country to no longer be ours. Be warned, such an “association” does not make you stronger, it just takes your country away from you.

you are talking crap. in 80´s britain was a dead nation; EU resucitates britain; franco-germanic axis. Today britain exportations are bought by EU nation; world don´t buy british goods, they are too much expensive because of pound value. britain needs europe more than europe needs them.

Billy boy. You have already demonstrated, time after time, that you don't have as much intelligence as the bacteria that spawned you. You are not doing any better now.
Britain WILL discard the EU because Britain's destiny is to be sovereign.
