This week’s news that China had overtaken Japan to become the world's second-largest economy in the second quarter of this year made headlines around the world.     China´s rise as superpower and economic giant is bizarre, to say the least. It is now the second largest economy in the world and it holds world status next to US, England, France, Japan, etc.

    Yet its people do not share that status, their salaries rank as one of the lowest in the world, their workers lack social security, pension funds, retirement plans, the most basic labor rights, and the list of lacks and have nots of their people is long.

    A larger population equals a greater power. That's why some developing countries - India and Brazil for instance - can afford a greater influence than Denmark or Sweden.
