It's high time the Gov. increased our defense, in comparison of Chilean and Brasilian investment we are a step behind. Anyway as it says those helicopters are multi purpose it might help to save some lives, and that's always good news

Around 60 nations use this equipment.

They are barred from purchasing US military equipment because they owe us $ from their last purchase. That why they don't have any new replacement parts and they have to part out their other jets to keep 4 flying.

Notice that this is for future delivery, just about in time for a new government to find a way to come up with enough money to pay for them.

My information is that US Special Forces use these for the sake of deniability.

Yes, as do the UK Special Forces, deniability, and they are very reliable.

We have enough money to pay for them, even if they were 20.

I hope we don't buy any more of these, they're ugly and they look like they're older than s--t!

    Sukhoi SU30 flighters I wouldn't mind

Fernando, the problem is that the Mi-17 is relatively cheap in comparison to the SU30 (like about an eighth of the price).

Zethee - I do not know who “We” is, but Argentina has already stated that it cannot pay retired folks 82% of the minimum wage, as the country does not have the money. Where does the money come from to pay for 20 helicopters?

I don't know who “We” are either, You have me mixed up with the rabid argentine Jorge, such an insult!

“According to Argentine Defense sources the multipurpose helicopters are to be used for logistic and rescue operations in Antarctic bases.”

I guess it makes sense then as long as they're reliable, I would station one on the Antarctic and one on the Alt. Irízar icebreaker as cargo equipment and rescue.

Confirmed, the two helicopters will be permanently assigned to the Argentine Antarctic bases.

A total of three Sea King helicopters onboard the ARA Almirante Irizar icebreaker were destroyed in a fire that broke out in 2007, but they will be replaced by helicopters of the same make and model. Six Sea King helicopters have already been delivered, four operational and two for spares. Interesting note on this: http://www.aviationnews.eu/2008/10/28/navair-and-argentine-navy-team-to-deliver-six-sea-king-helicopters/

“...in comparison of Chilean and Brasilian investment we are a step behind.”

Laugh, just a step? Your nation is way way waaay behind.

    Jihad Jorge typed:
We have enough money to pay for them, even if they were 20.

Laugh, You meant you have enough of borrowed money to pay for them and you meant, you have enough money to pay for them, if you don't pay the bills, include domestic bills.

    LAUGH.

We have as ever a lot of international reserves and our economy is growing and growing, we could turn you into a cheap s**t if we wanted with our money.

P.S.: How are you doing with socialist Obama?
Are you working on the road to pave them as your president promised? LOL

Oh Gawd! gorge is on his drug-induced dreamland trip again.

gorge. You don't have lot of international reserves. You just have money that you are holding back rather than paying your debts.
Your economy may be growing slightly. But your economy is only worth one hundred thousand millionth of what it was worth 30 years ago. You are living on subsidies. And when the Kirchners think they've made enough profit and pull out to live in some palatial mansion somewhere else in the world, you'll find out how poor you really are.

    Bad news for brutish warmongers.
    Good news for British people.
    http://www.guardian.co.uk/commentisfree/2010/sep/07/defence-budget-expensive-showing-off

    Argentina shows its lead again.....
Not only is our economy growing at “Chinese” rates in the midst of the worst economical crisis in the last 80 years...................
Not only do we allow anybody to publish anything they wish (even libel) in our Country..................
We also dismantled our “military apparatus” many years ago........

Time for Britain to learn something..............

    “You're just here to rant”
    He said, while ranting.

Think, the author of that is the same guy who thinks scrapping the entire armed forces is a good idea.

”Not only do we allow anybody to publish anything they wish (even libel) in our Country“

This isn't something special think, most nations governments allow the media to publish what they like within reason.

”We also dismantled our “military apparatus” many years ago”
You just announced a 50% rise in military spending....

“Clearly none of you are capable of holding a normal conversation, not one of you.”

Unfortunately, F_A's idea of a normal conversation is where he makes one or more points and everyone agrees with him. People who have a different view, even if they refer to evidence, are slagged off. Typical Argentine psychopath.

He had no objection with changing the subject when he said the belgrano was a war crime, and i proved him wrong. Or any of the other times when he makes rubbish up with no proof to back it up.

Infact he told me to change the subject.

Complains about us ranting yet i constantly see him refering to us as wankers or constantly using vulgar language.

Not really, I've known about the army loosing upto around 20,000 men for a while. Ground troops are quick to train thats why they are being cut rather than big items which take years to make.

I don't even see the problem with merging the two together, the Paras don't even do jumps now since tech has moved on.

good start I wish we had invested in some nuclear defence tactical weapon rather then buying this helicopter, for the same money we could have build this helicopters in Argentina, this was a waste of money, maybe we will wake up and stop wasting money on this worthless chooppers and work on a nuclear defence program.

    Sep 08th, 2010 - 04:19 pm - Link - Report abuse 0
  • Zethee

It's cheaper to buy items rather than to create your own. A nuclear defence program would cost you tens of billions.

Paras and Royal Marines will NOT be merging. Although, if I were an Argentine, I'd be sh*tting myself if they did.

For the nonce, no South American or Caribbean country can have a nuclear defence program. Except for very deep holes. Any attempt to develop such a program will place them in the same category as Iran.

Can you hear the drums Fernando?
I remember long ago another starry night like this
    In the firelight Fernando
You were humming to yourself and softly strumming your guitar
I could hear the distant drums
And sounds of bugle calls were coming from afar
    :-)
